Delayed Departure
04:35
|
|||
delayed departure, back to the gate
a little light blinks, our evening at stake
dinner at six or seven, maybe eight
my calendar fixed, your calendar fate
the stars lined up so our romance could bloom
they've since gone to lunch, so we've gotta make due
delayed arrival, circling the runway
a bolt, a clap, and a window in grey
tell everybody we're running late
they're calendar fixed, your calendar fate
the stars lined up so our romance could bloom
they've since gone to lunch, so we've gotta make due
the clock is winding down
as you're riding the wind down
you're so close now
we'll make every moment count
we'll make every moment count
the stars line up so our romance could bloom
they've since gone to lunch, so we've gotta make due

Sounds Like 3
03:55
|
|||
you thought I'd be an easy no
wave your hand and away I'd go
but I'm not your average woman, I'm like your worst opponent
returning twice as hard your blow
wrap your fists, lick your lips and pray
wrap your fists, lick your lips, I say:
Victory sounds like 3 (1, 2, victory, 1, 2, victory...)
you'd think by now you'd really know
who you're leading who you're needing to grow
but you've had one too many bruises, and you're the one who loses
when you and I go toe to toe
wrap your fists, lick your lips and pray
wrap your fists, lick your lips, I say:
Victory sounds like 3 (1, 2, victory, 1, 2, victory...)
quick on my feet I won't retreat from you, from you
what a lazy try, and now you can't deny that to me
Victory sounds like 3 (1, 2, victory, 1, 2, victory...)

Curbside Poetry
03:35
|
|||
marigolds and sunshine
one holds the season, one holds the time
growing orange and reaching rays
stretching to touch each other during the day
pulling up to curbside poetry, accidentally
I see all this beauty for free
lightning bugs and moonlight
one burns innately, one needs the night
glowing green and mirroring
extending out in the dark just trying to be seen
pulling up to curbside poetry, accidentally
I see all this beauty for free
it's a drive-by revelation - marigolds in bloom
idle hesitation in my caffeinated noon
can it really be that orange and yellow's all I need
to get perspective on my blue
pulling up to curbside poetry, accidentally
I see all this beauty for free

How Absurd
04:46
|
|||
how fitting that uncertainty is just where ya need to be
unfolding, slowly, aching in every curl
underwater now, don't breathe...
how absurd, the certain world
how absurd, the certain world
how appropriate that all of your doubt would be your way out
stepping gently, but intently
in a dream state, don't hesitate...
how absurd, the certain world
how absurd, the certain world
I am the wall, I am the rope, I build the steps and the hope

Lullaby
03:39
|
|||
I wanted to sing you a lullabye, but what would I sing?
of lovers hand in hand?
or waves against the sand?
the way the planets turn?
the fear of being hurt?
a melody of perfection?
or of my lessons learned?
How could I ever explain:
the cold of steel?
the weight of what you'll feel
in life, of death, for dreams?
the visits from grief?
all the shades of blue?
all the potential in you?
climbing up a tree?
flying on trapeze?
falling to the ground?
getting up when you are down?
I'll never find all the words that name:
the silence of a snowfall,
the smell after a rainfall,
or what makes roses so tall,
the aching for a change,
or how you'll make your way,
the tune the songbird sings
or what opens its wings,
what tempts it to the sky
or convinces it to fly.
I wanted to sing you a lullabye, but what would I sing?
There is so much that I want to say, maybe none of it will last a day,
but what I hope will stay with you is all my love for you,
all my love for you.

A Cloud
03:09
|
|||
riding high, with the wind
floating on a blue whim
dunno my shape, dunno my size
but I feel the sunshine and I'm alive
soak me up, rain me down, drifting as a cloud
shrinking as I make things grow
and maybe they will never ever know
it matters not the length or the time
disappearing as I arrive
soak me up, rain me down, drifting as a cloud

Affected
04:17
|
|||
lightning sparks the darkness
and the rain splatters around
like tiny feet marching from the clouds
hear the rumble and take cover
we smell the earth and we wonder
what will you be if you give up?
what will you be if you give up?
stars shine bright like our lust
and again fade into dust
must find a new way to combust
lighting up, reaching out
see the whole world in a sweeping curl
what will you be if you give up?
what will you be if you give up?
the wind draws in and exhales
and we are a sail
what will you be if you give up?
what will you be if you give up?

Savannah Tree
03:20
|
|||
what is there to say about this change
it doesn't feel real, but the calendar reveals
a naked ambition, avoiding attrition
but I feel the pressure
am I coal to make diamonds?
or food for the lions -
and maybe I'll make a pretty savannah tree
what do I escape, what will take shape
if time is around, will I some way, somehow
catch my stumble, recover my fumble
but I feel the weight
am I coal to make diamonds?
or food for the lions -
and maybe I'll make a pretty savannah tree
am I coal to make diamonds?
or food for the lions -
and maybe I'll make a pretty savannah tree

Out of Thin Air
04:22
|
|||
does a single sigh
make the heights too high?
unreachable sky.
does a simple shrug
make a victim?
unsolvable conundrum.
pull it out of thin air
pull it out of thin air
can the tongue unfurl
to change the world
while still clutching its pearls?
if its said just right
can words become life?
can the notes breathe poetry into night?
pull it out of thin air
pull it out of thin air
make it bold. turn the globe. secrets unfold...
pull it out of thin air
pull it out of thin air
